In my own words.
Hey there! Welcome to my little corner of the internet where you can get to know me a bit more. See some info about the work I've done, achievements I've made, and subjects that light me up.

The design industry is getting even more fake. But here’s my commitment to continue not to be.
As a Creative Director/Art Director/Designer, I’ve spent my career creating ideas that were led by my own imagination, intuition, perspective, and eye. And as AI is becoming the norm everywhere we look, I’m doubling down in not using any AI in my designs or visuals. Every single layout, every single detail will continue to be built from my brain to my hand. While I see AI as a helpful tool in proofreading type or gathering research, I feel strongly that it has no place in act

Celebrating new clients
Starting May off with a new long-term retainer client. ⚡️ People often ask me about full-time roles versus freelance/fractional/contract/retainer ones, I always say that all have their perks and downsides. But personally, while my career has dipped between both, long-term freelance and retainer partnerships have always tended to be my bread and butter. The freedom, the trust, the flexibility, it’s the good stuff. My newest partnership? Leading a design team of a well-known na

2025 AIGA MN Portfolio 1-on-1 Closing Remarks Panel
Last week, I wrapped up AIGA Minnesota Portfolio 1-on-1 as a reviewer and was humbled to be invited to be a panelist for the Closing Remarks. Great questions were asked and answered, and it was neat to see who ended up taking home awards. Huge thanks to all the organizers and students for bringing the design mojo. ⚡ Watch three of my answers above or catch the full panel here: https://vimeo.com/1077422739?share=copy

The podcast that wasn't.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve had a surprising amount of people encouraging me to start a podcast. So I entertained the idea and started developing one. In its nature, it was going to be casual conversations highlighting how undeniably powerful the sparks of ideas and relatability fly when two people connect. I started creating the format, a logo, and even a little animation for it. I had the momentum but never ended up launching it. Why? Truthfully, a bit of self-doubt

UXPA Minnesota Panel Discussion
I recently had the privilege of being a part of a panel for UXPA Minnesota , where we discussed topics around career development, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and psychological principals in UX/CX/UI. It was an honor to speak alongside some truly brilliant minds in the field, Simon Shamoun , Siri Preston , and Kahlil Brewington . Not only was I humbly inspired by each of you, you also had me nodding enthusiastically as each of you spoke. The full panel discussion is

I’m both Bert and Ernie, let me explain.
In terms of Sesame Street, I always thought I was more a Grover. Who knew I was both Bert and Ernie all along. Throughout my career in design, I've always been the Ernie, the creative goofball using my imagination to spark my ability to come up with fun ideas and to bring cool designs to life. That came in the form of titles like Creative Director, Art Director, Designer. But something I didn’t highlight as much was just how much of a Bert I am too, meticulous, organized, kee

I was born a smart-ass
As you would expect, growing up with the surname Mules wasn't easy. (Insert endless jackass punchlines here.) But what others may have seen as a joke, I saw it as a golden opportunity when I graduated from The College of Visual Arts back in the day, a time when standing out from the crowd would become important. So, with asses in tow, I embraced my silly last name and turned it into a conversation starter, a memorable hook, and a comical nod that set me apart in the industry.

Let's get your flame glowing
Years ago I created an Instagram account with the sole purpose of radiating encouragement to others. I haven't added to it in a long time, but I still hope this tiny account provides some warmth to those who may need it. Need a little pick-me-up? Take a peek at the link below. :) At your best, your flame glows. At your worst, it’s barely a flicker. Kindling reminds a withering flame that it’s a fire. https://www.instagram.com/_.kindling._/

Riding the wave
By far, the most repeated phrase of advice I've given over the years is this; ride the wave. I love the simple sentiment of it, to let go of control and just enjoy the ride. For the second time in a year, I’m following my own advice as I’m being given another opportunity within a phenomenal agency. In addition to leading the North America UI Design Team at Astound Commerce, I will now also be managing the North America UX Design Team as well. These designers are insanely smar

User Inyerface Challenge
Good UX and UI should be invisible. Bad UX and UI are beyond ignorable. Case in point, the User Inyerface Challenge. I triple-dog-dare you to try to complete this without wanting to throw your device out the window. 😆 https://userinyerface.com/

In case you hear this in a meeting...
One of my favorite things about working from home is having my little assistant (Ellie) working alongside me and visiting me throughout the day. The only downside? When she repeatedly pushes her "talking" buttons to tell me things. The button seen in this picture says "I love you" when she pushes it. She pushed it FIVE times just today. Another button is just outside of my door and says "open". Today alone, she pushed that button SEVEN times to tell me to open my door and let

That's what she said
I'm humbled to have accepted a promotion this week to lead the North America UI design team, as part of our larger global design department, at Astound Commerce. This incredibly talented team of designers span from New York to Minneapolis and they do incredible work for incredible clients. I look forward to continuing to learn from them while doing my very best to be the most sincere, empathetic, and constructive I can be. I'm thinking (a little) less Michael Scott and more T

Pantone Rubix cube
I’ve always wanted one, but the quality and colors online were no bueno. So I made my own Pantone Rubix Cube. [Fun Fact: Once you mix it up, it’s virtually impossible to get the centers back in the right orientation.]
